Getting social at the WCD


There are a number of social events planned as part of the 23rd World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) in Vancouver. Delegates, accompanying persons, sponsors and exhibitors are encouraged to attend these events and ceremonies, which allows for social as well as networking opportunities.

(Please review your WCD program to confirm times and locations for each of the events listed below.)

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place in the East Hall AB at the Vancouver Convention Center on Monday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m., and this event will officially commence the 23rd World Congress of Dermatology.

During the Opening Ceremony, the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the WCD 2015 organizing committee will take the opportunity to formally welcome guests to Vancouver. The well-known Vancouver Police Pipe Band will be on hand to entertain and help welcome WCD attendees.

Welcome Reception

On Monday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m., delegates, accompanying persons, sponsors and exhibitors are invited to the WCD’s Welcome Reception, which will be held in the Foyer West, Level 1 of the Vancouver Convention Center.

During the welcome reception, according to the WCD, attendees will have a chance to mingle informally colleagues and friends and with other attendees.

Also, attendees can sample culinary offerings highlighting British Columbia’s rich culture and be entertained by Cirque performers high above them.

Fee: There is a fee of $25US to attend the Welcome Reception. The Welcome Reception is included in the accompanying person package fee.

WCD Gala Event

The WCD Gala Event is scheduled to take place at Rogers Arena on Friday, June 12 at 6:00 p.m. For this event a shuttle bus service is being provided for attendees. The shuttles depart the Vancouver Convention Centre starting at 6:00 p.m. and return starting at 10:00 p.m.

Guests who attend this gala event will have the opportunity to sample diverse cuisine inspirated from around the world. They will also be able to experience a global journey through dance and music with performers representing many corners of the world, according to the WCD’s social program overview of this event.

Fee and special instructions: There is a fee of $125US per ticket. The maximum purchase per delegate is four. Attendees must be 19 years of age or older. Dress code for the WCD Gala Event is business attire.

Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony of the 23rd WCD will take place in the West Ballroom ABCD at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Saturday, June 13 at 4:00 p.m. The Closing Ceremony is open to all delegates, accompanying persons, sponsors and exhibitors.
